Abstract
The purpose of this research was to determined whether there is a relationship of emotional intelligence with IPA results based on levels of academic ability of class VIII students in SMP Negeri 9 Pekanbaru academic year 2017/2018. The research was conducted from January 2018 to february 2018. The study was a correlational and data correlation using questionnaires, documentation and interviews. The sampel in this research as many as 166 students with different level of academic ability. Analysis of the data in this study using correlation analysis Person Product Moment. The results showed that for high academic, emotional intelligence (X), with IPA results (Y) there is a medium correlation with correlation coefficient value (0,460) while the average recapitulation of all indicators is 80.78%. For medium academic, emotional intelligence (X), with IPA results (Y) there is a medium relationship with correlation coefficient value (0,448) while the average recapitulation of all indicators is 79.12%. For low academic, emotional intelligence (X), with IPA results (Y) there is a medium relationship with correlation coefficient value (0,461) while the average recapitulation of all indicators is 73.26%. For significant test scores showed that for high academic emotional intelligence (X), with IPA results (Y) thitung (3,357) > tabel (2,018). For medium academic emotional intelligence (X), with IPA results (Y) thitung (4,368) > tabel (1,992). For low academic emotional intelligence (X), with IPA results (Y) thitung (3,366) > tabel (2,018). Indicates a significant between emotional intelligence with result of IPA study based on levels of academic ability of class VIII student in SMP Negeri 9 Pekanbaru on academic year of 2017/2018.
