Abstract

Mind Mapping is an analytical process that involves creatively integrating a combination of visual, color, codes, words, and connectors. Mind mapping can be used as a method to take note, to study before an exam, to brainstorming, or make connector between ideas. Mind Mapping Strategy helps students write and develop the ideas easily. However, not all of the students at SMPN 5 Siak Hulu were able to write a paragraph. The objective of this research was to find out whether there is significant effect of Mind Mappng Strategy Toward writing Ability in Recount text of the second year students at SMPN 5 Siak Hulu. The research was conducted through experimental research. There was one class as sample. Therefore, the data of this research were the result of pre-test and post-test. This research focused only on writing recount text. The writer applied the Mind Mapping Strategy in the class. Further,the writer gave two tests for the students, pre-test and post-test. The result of students score in the class were the mean score of pre-test was 41.65. while, in post-test, the writer got mean score of 55.96. Based on the writer analysis by using SPSS 22.0 program, the writer got the t-calculated at 5,665. While, t-table based on df 22 was 2.00. Thus, the t-calculated was higher than t-table. In brief, there was significant effect of Mind Mapping Strategy towards writing ability in recount text text of the second year students of SMPN 5 Siak Hulu.
