Abstract

This thesis aimed to know the effect of WebQuest toward reading skill of SMA YLPI Pekanbaru. WebQuest is an alternative and innovative way in teaching reading for students. WebQuests are a powerful teaching and learning device that have developed rapidly in recent years. The purpose of the research were to find out significant effect by using WebQuest toward students’ reading skills. This research is experimental research. It involved one class as a sample of the research. The instrument of the research was test including pre-test and post-test. Each test consists of 20 questions by using narrative text. The research was started by giving students pre-test in the first meeting. After pre-test, students were given some treatments by using WebQuest during four meetings. In the last meeting, posttest was given to the students in order to know the students reading skills after giving some treatment. After calculating the data, it was found that there is significant differences between students reading skill before treatment and students reading skill after treatment. Mean score of students test increased. In pre-test, the mean score was 62,09 and the mean score of post-test was 72,09. It incresed 10,79. In the other word, WebQuest can give significant effect for eleventh grade students of SMA YLPI Pekanbaru. So, the null hypothesis was rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted.
