Abstract
Assessing the performances of the students in the language, teachers need to construct good and appropriate test for the students by considering the validity of English multiple choices test of first grade students at SMPN 21 Pekanbaru. Hence, this study focuses analyzing three components of validity in English test; face validity, content validity, and construct validity. This research worked on mixed-method design that focused on embedded design that used quantitative and qualitative data. The data were collected from final English test. The findings showed that face validity of English test was 48% valid in term of format of the test which means fair. There was found 26 invalid items and 24 valid items. Then, content validity of English test was 100% valid in term of suitability between English test and English syllabus which indicates good. Furthermore, construct validity of English test 100% was fulfilled the cognitive domain of Bloom’s taxonomy which means good. There was 39 items in the level of C1 (remember) and 11 items in C2 (understand) level. In other words, the face validity of English test of first grade students at SMPN 21 Pekanbaru was fair (48%), the content validity of the test was good (100%) and the construct validity of the test was also good (100%).
