Abstract

This research aimed to find out types of errors and the errors frequently occurred in using passive voice that made by third grade students of MTsN 3 Kuantan Singingi. The writer took 30 students of third grade students of MTsN 3 Kuantan Singingi as sample. The researcher used test as a research instrument. The test consisted of 25 active sentences within present and past tense to change in to passive voice. The test was adopted by two books, Complete English Grammar and the Exercises and Understanding and Using English Grammar. In analyzing data, the writer neglected the score of the students’ answers, she focussed on students’ errors. Based on the writer’s findings, she found four types of surface strategy taxonomy errors that made by third grade students of MTsN 3 Kuantan Singingi in using passive voice. They were omission (187 errors or 25,62%), addition (44 errors or 6,03%), misformation (304 errors or 41,64%), and misordering (195 errors or 26,71%).
