Abstract

This research was conducted based on students’ problem in speaking ability, say for instance, some of the students were not able to use appropriate grammar in telling something, the students have lack of vocabulary, the students were not able to pronounce words correctly and speak fluently and the students were not confident to speak. Therefore, this research was aimed to find out whether there is significant effect of using the Puppet Show strategy on students’ speaking ability of the eighth grade students at SMPN 2 Bangkinang. This research was an experimental research. The variables of this research were independent variable (x) that was Puppet Show and dependent variable (y) was speaking ability. There were four meetings in giving treatments only for experimental class. The total population of this research was 125 students which consisted of four classes such as: VIII A, VIII B, VIII C, and VIII D. The sample of the research consisted of two classes: VIII C as an experimental class taught by using Puppet Show strategy and VIII D as a control class taught by using conventional method. The research findings showed that the improvement could be seen from the score of sig. (2-tailed). The probability sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000 less than 0.05. Therefore, there was significant difference of students’ speaking ability taught by using Puppet Show strategy for experimental class. Thus, it can be concluded that there was significant effect of using Puppet Show strategy toward students’ speaking ability of the eighth grade student at SMPN 2 Bangkinang.
