Abstract

The purpose of this research aimss a study of sociolinguistics that concerning of code mixing in daily conversation at Al Amin boarding school. Code mixing happen when people mix their language from one language to another language. The researcher analyzes two types and forms of code mixing based on Suwito’s theory. There types are :inner code mixing and outer code mixing and there forms are: insertion of word, insertion of hybird, insertion of phrases, insertion of word reduplication, insertion of clauses, and insertion of idiom. The research applied as descriptive qualitative method to get the type, form and reasons of code mixing data were taken from student conversation recording in Al Amin boarding school. The researcher used five steps to analyze the data, there were : recorded the conversation, wrote down the sentence that they use in the conversation, read the script, selected the Arabic-English code mixing, classified and analyzed the data was collected. The researcher found outer code mixing type and 21 students utterances. The insertion of word as a dominant used in students daily conversation. The researcher found the reasons why students used code mixing in their daily conversation were: bilingualism, speakers and partner speaking, situation, social community, prestige, vocabulary. In addition, the researcher found two more reasons why students used code mixing. They were obligation and regulation to talk.
