Abstract

Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) Strategy is powerful reading strategy in which it can help students easy in answering the reading questions because they have already know about where they got the answer according to QAR types of questions. The objective of this research was to find out the significant effect of Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) Strategy toward reading comprehension of the second year students at SMPN 25 Pekanbaru. This research was experimental research which used random sampling technique. Research sample was class VIII as experimental group consisted of 37 students and class VIII 5 as control group consisted of 37 students. The sample of this research was 74 students of the second year students at SMPN 25 Pekanbaru. The form of the test was multiple choice. Instruments which included pre-test and post-test. 7 The data were analyzed by using paired sample t-test from SPSS 22 program. The data of both pre-test and post-test from experimental class and control class were also compared. The result of t-test in the post-test show that Tcalculated (T) was 11.640 higher than T (Tt) at significant of 5% (2.028). It means that 11.640 > 2.028. Thus, the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. So, there was a significant effect of Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) Strategy toward reading comprehension of the second year students at SMPN 25 Pekanbaru.
