Abstract

Speaking seems to be the most important skills of all the four skills because people who know a language are usually referred to as speakers of that language. In reality, speaking is the most difficult skill. The students face many problems at the speaking ability. Fluency, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation are the kind of students’ problems in speaking ability. This research is based on the writer’s experience as a foreign language learner and teacher. This thesis intends to analyse students’ problems in speaking ability of the second semester at English Study Program of Islamic University of Riau. The population of this research was the semester students of English Study Program of Islamic University of Riau in 2017/2018 Academic Year. Total the second semester students of English Study Program were 30 students and devided into some groups. The research used class B chosen as the sampling of this research. After the writer did this research in English Study Program of Islamic University of Riau, the writer got the result of what learners speaking problems made by the second semester students at English Study Program of Islamic University of Riau. The result is most of the students at second semester of English Study Program have a good speaking ability because they can fix their problems in fluency, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.
