Abstract

Error analysis is a type of approach to analyze a second / foreign language learners’ speech or written performance. Several researchers already discussed error analysis from different perspectives. Error analysis are not just something to be eradicated, but rather can be important in and of themselves.The objective of the research was to find out the used of part of speech in writing by the third semester students of English department FKIP-UIR. The research design was descriptive qualitative research which describes grammatical error and qualitative approach in determining the percentage of ciriteria of grammatical errors in students’ writing of third semester students of English department at FKIP UIR Pekanbaru.It covers part of speech such as noun, verb and adjective. This research had one variabel, which was writing task in third semester at English department of FKIP UIR,with total population of 196 students. The sample of the research was 27 students. In ana`lyzing the data, the writer analyzed common error made by students essay writing. The researcher tried to identify the errors after that made a conclusion idea based on the students errors.The finding is found by analyzing students essay writing papers. In general, the finding is that students do not understand how to organize essay well, The students essay writing composition is mostly influenced by mother tongue.
