Abstract
Morphology is the study of word form and affixation. Using affixation (Derivational and Inflectional Morphemes) in reading text made students miscommunication or students did not get the point and sometimes students still did not know the change of words, especially in grammatical and the form of new words, even in reading the text they always removed the affix or did not care about it due to lack of knowledge of affixes. Understanding the use of words or form of words were very important to minimize miscommunication. Method of this research was descriptive qualitative to find out the categories of Derivational and Inflectional Morphemes in Reading Texts of 2013 Curriculum English Textbook for the X Grade of Senior High Schools Published by Ministry of Education and Culture. In this research, the researcher focused on seven of English reading texts. The results of this research showed that there was only one category of inflectional morphemes that did not exist in the text. Meanwhile, the categories of derivational morphemes that found in texts were: (1) Derivational prefixes, (2) Derivational suffixes (nominal, verbal, adjectival, adverbial suffixes). Furthermore, the categories of inflectional morphemes that found in texts were: (1) Noun suffixes (plural and possessive), (2) Verb suffixes (3rd person singular, past tense, and past participle), (3) Adjective suffixes (comparative and superlative).
