Abstract

Key words: Dialogue Memorization, Speaking Ability. Speaking is one of the language skills that must be learnt by the second year studnets of Junior High School. Based on Standard Competence in Speaking for Junior High School, the student should be able to create a good oral communication in dialogue form. To support the English teacher in teaching speaking, the reseacher conducted a study that aimed to find out the effect of Dialogue Memorization Technique toward students’ speaking ability of second year student at SMP Juara Pekanbaru. This study employed a pre-experimental research design which consisted one group pre-test and post-test . The participants of this study were 23 students of VIII Andalusia at SMP Juara Pekanbaru in the academic year 2016/2017. Morever, the researcher conducted the study in six meeting including, pre-test, treatments and post-test. it start from September to October 2016. After conducting the study, the finding indicated that there was an effect after applying Dialogue Memorization Technique. It gt the result that there were the significant effect of Dialogue Memorization toward students’ speaking ability. The average score in pre-test the students got (58) less than the average score in post-test (65). Also from the calculated of the analysis, it is found that ttable is 2,07 at the level of significant 5% is smaller than ttest is 2,63. In the other word, ttest was bigger than ttable in the level significant 5%. So, null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Furthermore, it can be said that there was significant effect gained by the students after applying dialogue memorization technique at SMP Juara Pekanbaru.
