Abstract

Violent conflict between students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Sciences with students from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau is a prolonged conflict, first occurring in 1992. The following four years were 1996, 1999, 2000, 2007, and 2009. Next series of events Violent conflicts between students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Sciences with the last University of Riau Faculty of Engineering students took place on October 5, 2017. This study aims to analyze the causes of prolonged violent conflict between students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences with students of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau . This research method is descriptive. The research approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. This research is located at the University of Riau. Key informants in this study were students (principals) of Social Sciences and Engineering faculties involved in clashes, Fisipol alumni and Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau. Whereas the informants in this study were Deputy Dean III of the Faculty of Politics and Politics, Deputy Dean III of the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Social Sciences Lecturers and Lecturers of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau. The results showed that the causes of prolonged violent conflict between students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences with students of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau were 1) group solidarity, namely mutual assistance between other students 2) the feeling of in group and out group, great pride the faculty even tends to interpret the language better than other faculties in the University of Riau. 3) want to be considered a role in the group, they want to be considered meritorious by their friends if they help their friends being attacked by others, so that they are also involved in violent conflicts, and 4) lack of good communication, blaming one of the proofs that communication is not good, and 5) there is no strict sanction.
