Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the factors causing the behavior of environmental damage and the efforts to overcome the behavior of environmental damagecommitted by Illegal Gold Mining (PETI) and to know by Illegal Gold Mine (PETI). The type of research used is descriptive survey with qualitative analysis, the data used primary and secondary data by conducting the observation, interview, and documentation, then the data and information obtained are analyzed inductively. The activities of an illegal gold mining are still ongoing in Kuantan Singingi district until now. An illegal gold mining activities are giving some impacts on the environment (pollution of water and soil sources) and human health due to the use of harmful substances to mecuri to solidify gold grains. The result of this study shows that there are several factors causing illegal gold mining activities is difficult to be eliminated, that is because of economic problem, social culture, policy and the existence of investors. There are various efforts have been conducted to overcome the problem by local government, such as socialize the damage of illegal gold mining, release a written and oral warning. However, all of these efforts seem give no big impact for the society to stop themselves from an illegal gold mining activities.
