Abstract

Communication is essential in a person self-concept, because communicate to others increasing knowledge of oneself. So that make a person is able to open to the environment. Especially in this study, on students from Patani Thailand UIR who live in the neighborhood of RT 05 RW 04 Amaliyah street. Students have difficulty in communicating with the surrounding. Students of Patani Thailand are immigrant college students, so they rarely return to their hometowns, in Pekanbaru Riau they have an organization that is called PMIPTI. Interesting characters from students Patani Thailand is they are more religious, both from their activities and the way they dress, they have different way of dressing according to the purpose, college theme and daily theme. In addition, there are also students who are already married. In this study, researchers want to know how Patani Thailand stduents self-concept and how they have certain concept. This research, using qualitative descriptive method. Research subjects 5 people from the generation of 2013 and 6 additional informants. Technique used in data collection that is, observation, interview and documentation and also technique of examination of data validity that is triangulation. The result found that, along with human communication can affect one's self concept, is happens to students of Patani Thailand UIR. The self-concept of students from Thailand Patani a dominant: friendly, good, gentle, assertive, open and creative. There are some factors who influenced of the character of UIR students from Patani Thailand from Significant Other which is from the Family and reference group which is from PMIPTI the organization, which affects in the knowledge of Religion and Indonesian language.
