Abstract

The crime of assault is a crime in Indonesia that can harm a person's body and soul. Assault is the act of someone intentionally hurting or harming another person, causing physical or psychological suffering. This is done to achieve a specific goal or reason by using physical violence such as hitting, kicking, or torturing the victim. Crimes of assault within the jurisdiction of the Lima Puluh Pekanbaru Police have increased in recent years. Therefore, the main problem in this study is the factors causing the occurrence of crimes of assault within the jurisdiction of the Lima Puluh Pekanbaru Police and police efforts to address crimes of assault within the jurisdiction of the Lima Puluh Pekanbaru Police. This research uses an empirical or sociological legal research method, namely research conducted by going directly into the field and using data collection techniques in the form of interviews with research respondents. Based on the results of this study, the author can conclude that the crime of assault in the jurisdiction of the Lima Puluh Kota Police, Pekanbaru is a social phenomenon influenced by individual factors, social environment, education, and economics. Police efforts to overcome the crime of assault include preventive measures such as routine patrols in conflict-prone areas, as well as raising awareness about the importance of self-control and peaceful conflict resolution. The police also collaborate with community organizations to strengthen the professional legal process, including the collection of evidence, witness examination, so that the investigation process complies with legal procedures.
