Abstract
A business owner on the e-commerce platform Shopee engaged in dishonesty in providing product information by presenting descriptions that did not reflect the actual condition of the goods being sold. This was evidenced by the products that reached consumers being completely unsuitable, such as product quality differences. The seller also failed to respond to consumer complaints and did not even provide compensation to consumers, either in the form of a refund or a replacement. These business owners' actions violate Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection. The formulation of the problem in this study is as follows: 1) How is consumer protection against losses in buying and selling through the Shopee e- commerce platform based on Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning consumer protection 2) What are the obstacles in obtaining legal protection for consumers against losses in buying and selling through the Shopee e-commerce platform. The method used to address the research questions in this study is empirical law, a data collection technique in which the researcher conducts direct observations of the research subjects to closely observe their activities. Data collection methods include interviews and documentation. The results of the study indicate that legal protection for consumers is not implemented in online sales agreements. Based on the research results, the author found that consumers are not protected by their rights under Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection. Consumers still experience losses caused by business actors. However, business actors do not fulfill their responsibilities for the losses they cause to consumers. Numerous obstacles are found in implementing legal protection for consumers. There are various factors that cause these obstacles, including obstacles from business actors (descriptions made that do not match the goods received), consumers who do not understand applicable laws, and even from the e-commerce application Shopee, which has a long procedure. Obstacles in accessing legal protection prevent protection for consumers. Relevant laws and regulations also cannot provide effective protection due to these obstacles
