Abstract

Keritang District is one of the rice production centers in Indragiri Hilir Regency, which is predominantly characterized by tidal lowland rice fields with ecosystem conditions influenced by river water fluctuations. These conditions require appropriate farm management to optimize rice production and farmers’ income. This study aims to analyze tidal lowland rice farming in Keritang District, covering farmer characteristics, farm profiles, cultivation techniques, as well as production factors, costs, income, and farming efficiency. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method using a survey approach. The research location was determined through purposive sampling, while respondents were selected using simple random sampling, involving 43 farmers. Data were collected through interviews using questionnaires, field observations, and documentation studies. Data analysis included calculations of production costs, revenue, income, and farming efficiency using the Revenue Cost Ratio (R/C Ratio). The results showed that tidal lowland rice farmers in Keritang District had an average age of 49 years, an average education level of 8 years, farming experience of 19 years, and an average family dependency of 4 persons. The farm profile indicated an average land area of 1.09 hectares, seed use of 151 kg per planting season, planting spacing ranging from 30 × 30 cm to 25 × 25 cm, and rice varieties including Panama, Karya Putih, Super, Merah Putih, and Pariyaman. In general, all cultivation stages had been implemented; however, some practices such as land preparation and fertilization were not fully in accordance with technical recommendations. Production factors included labor use of 25.00 man-days (HOK), 60 kg of urea fertilizer, and pesticides such as Rice Bac 400SC, Alika, and Decis 25 EC. Farm analysis showed that the average tidal lowland rice production reached 2,784 kg per holding per planting season. The total production cost was Rp7,677,639, with a net income of Rp11,529,826 per holding. The R/C Ratio value of 2.50 indicates that tidal lowland rice farming in Keritang District is efficient and economically feasible to be developed.
