Abstract
Pangkalan Sesai is one of the areas that is directly adjacent to the Dumai Strait. This area is a densely populated area, consisting of swamps that are exposed to the tides of seawater so that the possibility of seawater intrusion causes groundwater to become brackish, smelly and reddish-brown in color. However, people still use shallow groundwater to meet their daily needs, even though water that is suitable for use must meet the requirements of colorless, odorless, tasteless and meet other chemical requirements. The purpose of this study are to determine the distribution and direction of shallow groundwater flow, determine the distribution of shallow groundwater quality based on physical and chemical parameters, determine the feasibility of shallow groundwater quality and determine the level of seawater intrusion in the research area. The methods used in this study are field sampling and laboratory analysis. The results of the measurement of physico-chemical parameters are compared with the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No.2 of 2023 concerning clean water quality standards. Based on the results of the study, the color of the groundwater in the research area was clear (20%), cloudy (46%), yellow (20%), brown (7%) and reddish-brown (7%). Groundwater odor in the study area smelled (40%) and did not smell (60%). The taste of groundwater in the study area was tasteless (80%) and brackish (20%). Groundwater TDS ranges from 110-2480 mg/l. DHL groundwater ranges from 272-1962 us/cm. Groundwater salinity ranges from 0,15-1,82 ppt. The pH of groundwater ranges from 6,5-6,8. Cl - ranges from 22,8-1211 mg/l. HCO3 - groundwater ranges from 0-571 mg/l. CO3 2 - groundwater 0 mg/l. According to the Minister of Health Regulation No.2 of 2023 concerning the feasibility of clean water, from all the results of physical and chemical parameters, it can be seen that all groundwater samples (100%) do not meet the requirements of clean water quality so that groundwater is categorized as unsuitable for use. Analysis of the level of seawater intrusion showed that 3 stations (20%) had a moderate saltwater influence, 8 stations (53%) had a considerable saltwater influence, 3 stations (20%) had a large saltwater influence and 1 station (7%) had a very large saltwater influence.
