Abstract

This study seeks to examine how organizational communication contributes to sustaining employee performance within the Department of Communication, Informatics, and Statistics (Diskominfotiksan) of Dumai City, using the concept of vertical communication as its theoretical foundation. Vertical communication refers to the exchange of information between superiors and subordinates, moving both upward and downward, which plays a crucial role in ensuring coordination, fostering motivation, and improving work efficiency. The research applies a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation as data collection methods involving staff from the Division of Information and Public Communication. The findings reveal that vertical communication at Diskominfotiksan Dumai City has been implemented in line with the principles of vertical communication. This is evident from the mechanisms of regular meetings, direct instructions from leaders, work reports, as well as the utilization of digital media that facilitates coordination. Communication from superiors to subordinates takes place clearly and in a structured manner, while communication from subordinates to superiors is facilitated through reports and discussion forums. Nevertheless, occasional miscommunication regarding task distribution is still encountered, although it does not significantly hinder organizational performance. In conclusion, vertical communication at Diskominfotiksan Dumai City runs according to the theory, thereby supporting coordination effectiveness and maintaining employee performance.
