Abstract

YouTube serves as an effective learning media tool that enhances students' speaking skills in the classroom.The aim of this research is to find out the effect of youtube as media towards students’ speaking skill of the ninth grade at SMPN 32 Pekanbaru. This study employs an experimental research design with a quantitative method. The sample consists of 37 students from IX 1(experimental class) and 37students from IX 2(control class). Speaking tests was used as the research instrument, administered as pre-tests and post-tests. Data analysis is conducted using the SPSS 25.00 program. The findings indicate that applying YouTube as a learning media significantly improves students' speaking skills, particularly in vocabulary, grammar, fluency, comprehension, and pronunciation. So, the research of hypothesis Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected with the mean score of students' speaking skill in the experimental class increases from 60.13 in the pre-test to 83.78 in the post-test. With a t-calculated value of 10.720 and a t-table value of 2.028 (df 36 ), the research concluded that there was a significant effect of Youtube as Media Towards Students Speaking Skill of the Ninth Grade at SMPN 32 Pekanbaru.
