Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine whether using scrapbooks improves students' speaking abilities in the eighth grade of MTs Masmur Pekanbaru. Scrapbook media accustomed to enhance the motivation of students to acquire English, as they provide opportunities for students to express their creativity. Quantitative experimental research design was implemented in this investigation group. This study focused on two variables. There are 54 students of eight grade as population that are divided into 3 classes. The experimental class was VIII.2, and the control class was VIII.3. This research help understanding how scrapbook media affects the outcome of students' communication abilities. The experimental class's pre-test result was a mean of 25.82 Subsequent posttest of experimental class obtained mean 33.88. Result of control class pre-test mean 24.94. The mean of the control class after the post-test 28.94. Overall, the result of this research represents an improvement of pre-test and post-test result because the sig. value ( 2-tailed) < 0.005 which means that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. Therefore, it can be conclude that scrapbook media can improve students’ speaking skill.
