Abstract

The use of diversification patterns is a challenge for farmers in managing vegetable farming businesses, so it requires a combination to provide maximum profits. The study aims to analyze: (1) Characteristics of farmers and vegetable farming profiles, (2) Use of production factors, production costs, income and efficiency of vegetable farming businesses, (3) combinations of vegetable crops that can maximize farming profits. The study used a survey method in Pekanbaru City with a specific location in Tuahmadani District, carried out for 6 months. The sampling technique was carried out using Random Sampling. The population of farmers in each sub-district was taken randomly as much as 10%. So, the number of vegetable farmer samples was 53 farmers who cultivated 3 types of vegetables, namely kale, spinach, and mustard greens. The analysis tools used were linear programming analysis, dual, primal, sensitivity, qualitative and quantitative descriptive. The results of this study indicate that: (1) Characteristics of farmers such as age with an average age of 41 years, average education of farmers with an average of 9 years (junior high school), farming experience with an average of 8 years, and the number of family dependents with an average of 4 people. The farming business profile obtained an average land area of 2,794.72 m , average land ownership is leased, and the average initial capital of farmers is Rp. 27,960,596. (2) In vegetable farming, the average use of production factors is kale seeds 3.29 kg/garapan/PP, spinach seeds 2.32 kg/garapan/PP, mustard seeds 1.05 kg/garapan/PP, urea fertilizer 41.58 kg/garapan/PP, ponska 41.54 kg/garapan/PP, NPK 34 kg/garapan/PP, organic fertilizer 2,794 kg/garapan/PP, destan pesticide 2.8 liters/garapan/PP and antracol 2.8 kg/garapan/PP, labor 10.96 HOK/garapan/PP. Production costs amount to Rp 4,245,730/garapan/PP, consisting of variable costs of 3,528,895/garapan/PP (80.79%) and fixed costs of Rp 716,855/garapan/PP (19.21%). Gross income is Rp 15,389,666/garapan/PP and net income is Rp 11,143,916/garapan/PP. Efficiency or RCR of 3.62 means it is profitable and worth pursuing. (3) The results of linear programming analysis show that optimization of vegetable farming is achieved with a combination of water spinach vegetables covering an area of 1,417.48 m 2 and mustard greens of 1,376.52 m 2 , with a profit of Rp. 11,904,626 (Rp. 763,081 higher than the actual condition).
