Abstract

This study discusses the design and development of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based chili seedling monitoring system to overcome the limitations of environmental monitoring, which is not yet real-time and integrated. The system was developed using an ESP32 microcontroller with the integration of several sensors, namely DHT-22 to measure air temperature and humidity, Soil Moisture sensor for soil moisture, soil pH sensor for the acidity level of the growing medium, and MQ-135 to detect CO₂ levels. Sensor data is sent and displayed through a monitoring website that provides Dashboard, Sensor Data, Filtered Data, and Graph features to support informative parameter monitoring. Hardware testing showed that all sensors were able to consistently read changes in environmental conditions under various test conditions, while software testing using the Black Box Testing method proved that every feature on the website functioned as designed. In addition, an automatic notification system via Telegram was successfully implemented to provide early warnings when parameter values exceed ideal limits, allowing users to take corrective action more quickly. Based on these test results, the built system functions in an integrated and responsive manner and is expected to improve monitoring effectiveness and reduce the risk of chili seedling failure during the sowing stage.
