Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the role of the Sub-District Head’s leadership in improving employee performance at the Bengkalis Sub-District Office, Bengkalis Regency. The focus of this research includes several aspects of leadership ability, namely decision-making ability, motivational ability, communication ability, ability to control subordinates, responsibility, and emotional control. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, in which data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving the Sub-District Head, Sub-District Secretary, Section Heads, and Subdivision Heads within the Bengkalis Sub-District Office. The results of the study indicate that the leadership of the Bengkalis Sub-District Head plays an important role in enhancing employee performance. The Sub-District Head demonstrates adequate capability in making quick and accurate decisions based on situational needs. In terms of motivation, the Sub-District Head is able to provide moral encouragement and recognition to employees to foster enthusiasm in performing their duties. From a communication perspective, the Sub-District Head implements open and effective two-way communication, creating a harmonious working atmosphere. The Sub-District Head also exhibits firmness in controlling subordinates while maintaining a humane approach, upholding work discipline without neglecting emotional relationships. Furthermore, the Sub- District Head’s sense of responsibility and ability to manage emotions have contributed to a conducive, stable, and results-oriented work environment.
