Abstract
The API RP19C standard is a specification and standard testing procedure used to evaluate proppants in hydraulic fracturing operations. Proppants are used to stimulate hydraulic fractures and function as wedges to prevent the fractures that have been formed from closing again. Based on the results of property tests conducted on three sand samples, namely Rupat Silica Sand and Sand Coated Resin with concentrations of 5%, 8%, and 10%, several tests were carried out, including roundness sphericity, bulk density, turbidity, crush resistance, and acid solubility in accordance with the API RP19C standard. After laboratory testing, the results of this study indicate that the samples have the potential to be used as proppants, as the tested properties of Kampar quartz sand and sand coated resin at 5%, 8%, and 10% meet the API RP19C standard requirements. The roundness sphericity values obtained were 0.69, 0.60, and 0.65, respectively, with the standard requirement being > 0.6. The bulk density values were 1.63 g/cc, 1.66 g/cc, and 1.72 g/cc, meeting the API RP19C standard of > 1.5 g/cc. The turbidity values were 153 NTU, 3 NTU, and 90 NTU, which are below the API RP19C standard of < 250 NTU. The acid solubility values were 2.8%, 2%, and 1.2%, all complying with the API RP19C standard of < 3%. The crush resistance test using 40/70 mesh resulted in values of 5% (6000 psi), 8% (7000 psi), and 10% (8000 psi), which meet the API RP19C standard of < 10% for pressures of 2000 and 6000 psi.
