Abstract

Peat soil is inserted into soft soil with a very small internal friction angle and almost no cohesion, so its bearing capacity is very low. If the soil's bearing capacity is smaller than the construction load it must withstand, it will result in failure of the bearing strength. One way to improve the condition of peat soil is by stabilizing it. The peat soil in Rakit Kulim District, Indragiri Hulu Regency is soil with a high organic content and fiber content and low specific gravity, so the peat soil is soft, difficult to compact and has low bearing capacity and compressive strength. Therefore, this study aims to make efforts to improve or stabilize the peat soil at this location so that it can be used as a base soil in construction. Peat soil stabilization involves mixing lime to achieve the optimum lime content. Once the lime content is achieved, the next step is to add the Difa Soil Stabilizer additive at concentrations of 1%, 1.5%, and 2%. Testing in this study included physical properties, mechanical properties, curing of the test specimens for 0, 3, 7, and 14 days, and UCT testing. The highest UCT test results were obtained from a test specimen with a mixture of 10% lime and 2% Difa Soil Stabilizer without curing, showing a maximum UCS result of 253.21 kN/m². This increase was able to exceed the maximum UCS of the original soil by 53%. This condition shows that increasing the content of Difa Soil Stabilizer was able to provide an increase in the UCS value, because the greater the content of the stabilizing material added, the better the increase in the inter-particle peat soil. After the value was obtained, the data was then converted into an E50 elastic modulus value and the result was 2,532.10 kN/m². The results of this test indicate that the mixture without curing produced the highest strength value, especially at a mixture of 10% lime and 2% Difa Soil Stabilizer and without curing. The strength value obtained has met the Bina Marga specifications, namely 2.00 kg/cm2 or 196.133 kN/m2, which shows that the results obtained in this study have met or even exceeded the established standards, especially at a lime content of 10% and Difa Soil Stabilizer 2%. Therefore, it can be concluded that stabilizing peat soil by mixing lime and Difa Soil Stabilizer can increase the soil's bearing capacity. Furthermore, not curing the test specimens is not a major factor in increasing soil strength, as uncured or directly processed mixtures can actually provide greater strength gains in construction materials.
