Abstract

This study aims to understand the subjective coping experiences of Generation Z in dealing with psychological pressure from academic, occupational, and social environments. Using a qualitative research approach and Edmund Husserl’s phenomenological theory, the study focuses on three main concepts: description of experience, phenomenological reduction, and intentionality. Five participants aged 18–25 were selected through purposive sampling, with criteria including being a student or young workerwho has experienced stress. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that the stressors encountered include anxiety about the future, workload, academic pressure, and demands or expectationsfrom family. The coping strategies applied are primarily emotion-focused coping, such as withdrawal, emotional regulation, and self reflection. Intrapersonal communication plays a crucial role in the coping process, as reflected in nonverbal expressions like looking down, biting lips, or fidgeting fingers when recounting stressful experiences. Phenomenologica l reduction reveals that emotional stability is prioritized before taking action. Meanwhile, intentionality indicates that participants’ consciousness of stress is directed toward personal meanings such as hope, a sense of responsibility, and self-discovery. Coping is understood as a reflective process that shapes both personal identity and life direction.
