Abstract

This study aims to analyze the teaching styles of English teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Siak Hulu, covering four main aspects, namely classical style, personal style, interactive style, and technology-based style. The background of this study stems from the importance of the role of teachers in choosing and applying the right teaching style so that the learning process becomes effective, interesting, and in line with the needs of students. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation of two English teachers selected using purposive sampling techniques. The results show that both teachers tend to apply a classical teaching style, in which the teacher acts as the center of knowledge and the main director of learning. However, there are efforts to integrate elements of personal and interactive styles to increase student engagement and create a more lively classroom atmosphere. Sample 1 shows a structured and efficiency-oriented learning pattern, while sample 2 is more active in building two-way communication and maintaining closeness with students. Meanwhile, technology-based teaching styles have not been optimally implemented due to limited school facilities and low student motivation in using digital media. In addition, nonverbal communication elements such as eye contact, voice variation, and facial expressions have been proven to play an important role in strengthening interaction and maintaining student attention during the learning process. It can be concluded that the effectiveness of teaching styles greatly depends on the teacher's ability to combine various approaches flexibly and contextually. Teachers who are able to balance learning structure, active student participation, and effective communication will be more successful in creating a meaningful, dynamic learning process that suits the needs of students.
