Abstract

This study aims to explore the forgiveness behaviour in the context of broken home families using a phenomenological approach within the perspective of Islamic psychology. Forgiveness is understood as a complex psychological process involving affective, cognitive, and interpersonal aspects. The subjects of this research were three female university students from broken home families who lived with extended families following their parents' divorce. Data collection techniques included observation and semi-structured interviews, supported by triangulation methods to ensure data validity. The findings revealed that forgiveness behaviour was influenced by avoidance motivation, revenge motivation, and benevolence motivation, along with the significant role of Islamic religious values in shaping forgiving attitudes. The results suggest that the act of forgiving involves not only emotional experiences but also reflects spiritual maturity and self-identity development in coping with family conflicts.
