Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effect of adding Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) nanoparticles to the coolant on radiator effectiveness, pump power, and the thermal efficiency of a gasoline engine. The experiment was conducted using a four-cylinder gasoline engine with load variations of 10 kg, 15 kg, and 20 kg, and TiO₂ nanoparticle concentrations of 0%, 0.3%, 0.6%, and 0.9%. The nanofluid mixture consisted of ethylene glycol and water, with TiO₂ nanoparticles added as an additive to enhance thermal conductivity. The results showed that increasing TiO₂ concentration significantly improved radiator effectiveness and engine thermal efficiency while reducing specific fuel consumption (SFC). At a 20 kg load, radiator effectiveness increased from 22.8% at 0% TiO₂ to 30.4% at 0.9% TiO₂, whereas SFC decreased from 0.213 kg/kW·h to 0.206 kg/kW·h. However, higher nanoparticle concentrations also increased pump power from 13,9 Watt at 0% TiO₂ to 14,83 Watt at 0.9% TiO₂ due to higher fluid viscosity. Overall, the addition of TiO₂ nanoparticles to the coolant effectively enhanced radiator heat transfer capability, maintained engine temperature stability, and improved fuel efficiency, although it required higher pump power. Therefore, TiO₂-based nanofluids can be recommended as an effective alternative for improving the cooling system performance of gasoline engines.
