Abstract
This study, entitled “Experimental Study of Radiator Cooling System Using Ethylene Glycol + H₂O Variations on Gasoline Engine Efficiency”, aims to determine the effect of different Ethylene Glycol (EG) and water concentration ratios on radiator effectiveness, thermal efficiency, and pump power consumption in a gasoline engine. The coolant mixtures used were 0%, 20%, 33%, and 50% EG, tested at a constant engine speed of 2500 rpm with coolant masses of 10 kg, 15 kg, and 20 kg. The research was conducted experimentally in a laboratory by measuring the inlet and outlet temperatures of the radiator, air velocity, and fuel consumption to evaluate heat transfer effectiveness and thermal efficiency. The results show that increasing Ethylene Glycol concentration significantly enhances radiator effectiveness and thermal efficiency. Radiator effectiveness increased from 13.4% at 0% EG to 24.2% at 50% EG, while thermal efficiency improved from 19.2% to 39.6%, depending on coolant mass. However, higher EG concentration also raised the coolant viscosity, resulting in an increase in pump power from 4.09 kW to 28,05 kW. Overall, a mixture of 33%–50% Ethylene Glycol provided the best thermal performance, although the higher pump power consumption must be considered. Therefore, a concentration range of 30–40% EG is recommended as the optimal balance between heat transfer effectiveness and energy efficiency in the cooling system.
