Abstract
One method to increase oil recovery is the Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) method, especially Chemical flooding, which has been proven to increase oil recovery but its effectiveness is limited in reaching oil trapped in the pores of the reservoir. The use of Graphene Oxide Nanosheets (GONs) based Nanofluids offers a potential solution in increasing EOR efficiency due to its hydrophilic nature and small size, but aggression and deposition are major challenges in nanofluid stability so that surface modification is needed to increase nanofluid stability. This study was conducted to analyze the surface characteristics of GONs modified with Hydrolyzed Polyacrylamide (HPAM) on the stability of GONs nanofluids. This study was carried out by synthesizing GONs using the LME (Liquid Mechanical Phase) method, modifying the surface of GONs with HPAM at concentrations of 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 ppm. The results of UV-Vis characterization of GONs and GONsHPAM showed wavelengths of 223 and 224 nm. The FTIR results on GONs and GONs-HPAM show hydroxyl functional groups (-OH) at 3285 cm-1 and 3306 cm1, carbonyl functional groups C-O at 1780 and 1674 cm-1, C=C functional groups at 1517 and 1539 cm-1 and epoxyl groups at 1238 and 1265 cm-1. The XRD results on GONs and GONs-HPAM show peaks at angles 2θ = 26.45 and 2θ = 20.794. The SEM results of GONs show that they have a flat and rigid surface and GONs-HPAM looks smoother and softer. The results of the GONs Zeta potential value of -24.3 mV indicate that the stability is starting to be unstable and will settle over time, at GONs-HPAM 100 ppm the zeta value of -30.9 mV indicates that the stability is quite stable and at GONs-HPAM 400 and 500 ppm the zeta potential value of -60.5 and 61.8 mV indicates that the particles are very stable. And the results of visual observations on GONs look stable within 30 minutes, at GONs-HPAM 100 ppm it is stable within 50 minutes, at GONs-HPAM 200 ppm it is stable within 60 minutes, GONs-HPAM 300 ppm is stable within 70 minutes, GONs-HPAM 400 ppm is stable within 90 minutes, and GONs-HPAM 500 ppm is stable within 80 minutes.
