Abstract

Oil recovery can be increased by discovering new wells or implementing Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technology. However, some older wells contain heavy, highviscosity oil, making extraction difficult. Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR) is an effective method to address this problem by involving microbes to reduce oil viscosity and increase oil production. Bacillus is a commonly used bacterium in the MEOR method, where oil palm roots serve as a nutrient source. This study aims to analyze screening studies of Bacillus bacteria for viscosity reduction and compare the most effective oil palm root bacteria. This study used four bacteria from oil palm roots: Bacillus cereus, Bacillus pacificus, Bacillus wiedmannii, and Bacillus paramycoides, at concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 25%, at temperatures of 40°C, 50°C, and 60°C. This research process began with bacterial rejuvenation, bacterial incubation, anaerobic testing, pH testing, viscosity testing, and FTIR testing. The results showed that Bacillus wiedmanni and Bacillus pacificus bacteria at a concentration of 15% were the most effective in reducing the viscosity of heavy oil, with a reduction percentage of 48,1%.
