Abstract

his study was motivated by the phenomenon among students of the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Riau Islamic University, where their saving decisions still required improvement. The research aimed to analyze the influence of religiosity and social environment on students’ saving decisions. This study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive method. The primary data were collected directly by the researcher through questionnaires. The population consisted of 1,073 students, with a total sample of 91 respondents selected using a simple random sampling technique based on the Slovin formula. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis, instrument testing, classical assumption testing, multiple linear regression analysis, and hypothesis testing with the assistance of SPSS software. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis showed that religiosity and social environment, both partially and simultaneously, had a significant and positive influence on students’ saving decisions. This finding was evidenced by the t-values for religiosity (6.366) and social environment (6.599), which were greater than the t-table value (1.9866), with significance values (Sig.) of 0.000 (< 0.05). Simultaneously, the F-value (60.186) exceeded the F-table value (3.10) with a significance of 0.000. The contribution of both variables in explaining saving decisions was 56.8%, while the remaining 43.2% was influenced by other factors not examined in this study. The study concluded that internal factors (religiosity) and external factors (social environment) played a crucial role in shaping students’ saving behavior.
