Abstract
This study was motivated by the low level of student discipline, which was reflected in several behaviors such as frequent tardiness, absenteeism without a valid reason, lack of order during the learning process, failure to complete assignments, and low engagement in religious activities. These symptoms were assumed to be associated with inadequate parental attention and the lack of discipline reinforcement within the family environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of the family environment on student discipline in the Islamic Education subject at Junior High School 2 Bandar Sei Kijang. This research employed a quantitative method using a correlational approach. The study population consisted of Grade VII and Grade VIII students enrolled in the Islamic Education subject Junior High School 2 Bandar Sei Kijang, with a total of 118 participants. The results showed that the respondents’ level of family environment (Variable X) was categorized as high, with a percentage of 78.18%. Student discipline (Variable Y) was also categorized as high, with a percentage of 80.42%. The results of the simple linear regression analysis indicated that the family environment had a positive and significant influence on student discipline, with a regression coefficient of B = 0.673 and a significance value of p = 0.001 < 0.05. The R Square value of 0.491 indicated that 49.1% of the variation in student discipline was explained by the family environment. Each implementation of family environmental support contributed to a 67.3% improvement in discipline, whereas the absence of this variable resulted in a 67.3% decrease in student discipline. Based on these findings, it was concluded that the family environment significantly influenced student discipline in the Islamic Education subject at Junior High School 2 Bandar Sei Kijang. This study reinforced the crucial role of the family environment in shaping and habituating disciplined behavior in students, particularly in educational contexts.
