Abstract

This study was motivated by the phenomenon of declining adolescent morals, which was increasingly visible in the current era of globalization. Technological developments, promiscuity, and declining social control were external factors influencing adolescent behavior. In this context, the family environment played a crucial role in building adolescent character and morals, enabling them to withstand negative external influences. The family as the first and foremost educational institution was expected to be a conducive place for moral development. The problem formulation of the study was how the influence of the family environment on the formation of adolescent morals in Teluk Meranti Village, Teluk Meranti District. The aim of the study was to determine the extent of the influence of the family environment in forming adolescent morals in the area. This was a quantitative study with a correlationalal approach. The population in the study were all adolescents who lived in RW 07 and RW 08 in Teluk Meranti Village. The sampling technique of the study was a saturated sampling technique, that the entire population was sampled, namely 70 adolescents. The data collection techniques of the study were questionnaires and documentation. The results of the study showed that the family environment had a positive and significant influence on the formation of adolescent morals. This was evidenced by the results of the percentage of the family environment (variable X) of 78.20% which was classified as "High" category, and the formation of adolescent morals (variable Y) of 74.94% was classified as "High" category as well. In conclusion, the better the family environment, the better the morals formed in adolescents.
