Abstract

This study was motivated by the issue of students’ understanding in Islamic Education at Bunayya Islamic Elementary School Pekanbaru. One of the problems identified was the lack of student comprehension, particularly in the topic of zakat. This lack of understanding was reflected in low test scores that did not meet the minimum competency criteria (KKM) of 75, even though the teacher had provided explanations to the best of their ability. The purpose of this study was to determine: the level of application of the demonstration method at Bunayya Islamic Elementary School Pekanbaru, the level of students’ understanding, and the influence of the demonstration method on improving students’ understanding in Islamic Education. This research was quantitative in nature using a correlational approach. The population consisted of 58 students, and a saturated sampling technique was used, in which the entire population served as the sample. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation, and analyzed using normality testing and hypothesis testing. The findings showed that the application level of the demonstration method (variable X) among fifth-grade students at Bunayya Islamic Elementary School Pekanbaru reached 0.785 or 78.5%, categorized as good. The level of students’ understanding reached 0.697 or 69.7%, categorized as very good. Furthermore, the results indicated that the demonstration method had a significant influence on improving students’ understanding, with a probability value of 0.000, which was lower than the significance level of 0.05. Therefore, the hypothesis stating that the demonstration method significantly influenced students’ understanding was accepted. It was predicted that if the demonstration method increased by 1%, students’ understanding would also increase effectively by 0.864 (X). Conversely, a 1% decrease in the application of the demonstration method was predicted to reduce student understanding by 0.864.
