Abstract

Abstract. Academic procrastination is a common issue experienced by university students, particularly in completing their final thesis. This behavior can lead to delayed graduation and increased psychological pressure. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-control and academic procrastination in completing final assignments among final-year students of the Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Islam Riau. The research employed a quantitative approach using the Pearson Product Moment correlation method. The study involved 177 students selected through a simple random sampling technique. The instruments used were a self-control scale and an academic procrastination scale. The analysis results showed a significant negative relationship between self-control and academic procrastination (r = -0.865, p < 0.05), indicating that the higher the level of self-control, the lower the level of academic procrastination. Conversely, lower self-control is associated with higher academic procrastination. This study highlights the importance of developing self-control as an effort to reduce procrastination behavior in the completion of final academic tasks.
