Abstract
This study aims to describe students' understanding of the concept of multiplication through the use of numeracy puzzles in grade V of SDN 193 Pekanbaru. The background of the research is based on the fact that many students still face difficulties in understanding multiplication due to monotonous teaching methods. Numeracy puzzles are chosen as interactive media that can enhance students’ motivation and conceptual understanding. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques include interviews, observation, and documentation. The research subjects consist of a teacher and selected fifth-grade students. The results showed that the use of numeracy puzzles helped students in restating multiplication concepts, providing examples and non-examples, presenting concepts in different forms, and applying the concept to solve problems. This media also made students more active and enthusiastic during the learning process. However, some students still experienced difficulties and needed further assistance. Overall, the use of numeracy puzzles is proven effective in improving students’ understanding of multiplication concepts at the elementary level.
