Abstract

The rapid development of smartphone technology makes consumers faced with many choices with various specifications and prices, making it difficult to make choices that suit their needs. This problem encourages the need for a system that can help the decision-making process objectively. This research aims to build a web-based Decision Support System (DSS) that can provide the best smartphone recommendations based on user preferences. The method used is Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), because it is able to provide alternative ranking results based on the distance to positive and negative ideal solutions. The system was developed using PHP programming language and MySQL database, with a Bootstrap-based interface to make it more interactive and responsive. The assessment criteria in the system include price, RAM capacity, internal memory, camera, battery capacity, screen type, and operating system update duration. The implementation results show that the system is able to process preference data from respondents and provide smartphone recommendations according to the preferences of respondents. From 20 preference data obtained through each respondent, smartphone ranking results are obtained which are sorted based on the highest to lowest preference value. So that each respondent can see the results of smartphone recommendations from rank 1 onwards which are still included in the maximum price range which is the basis for choosing a smartphone. Thus, this system can be used as an effective tool in determining the choice of smartphone.
