Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology and the widespread use of smartphones have opened significant opportunities to enhance the quality of education, particularly through the utilization of interactive media such as educational games. This study aims to design and develop an Android-based educational game using Unity as a learning medium for Biology subjects, specifically introducing the classification of living organisms into five kingdoms. This material is often perceived as abstract and difficult to comprehend by students; thus, a more engaging and enjoyable learning approach is required. The educational game is designed to increase students’ learning motivation, strengthen conceptual understanding, and reduce boredom commonly found in conventional learning methods. The development method employed in this study is the Game Development Life Cycle (GDLC), which consists of six stages: Initiation, Pre-production, Production, Testing, Beta Release, and Release. The final product of this research is an interactive educational game application that serves as an alternative learning medium for junior high school students, particularly to support their understanding of the five-kingdom classification system: Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia. Trial results involving 39 students yielded a score percentage of 85.93%, indicating that the use of this educational game has a positive impact on students' interest and comprehension in learning Biology.
