Abstract

Istana Siak Asserayah Al Hasyimiah is a historical tourism icon in Siak Regency that has experienced a significant increase in the number of visitors year by year. This study aims to evaluate the parking space requirements in the Istana Siak tourism area as one of the region’s leading destinations. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, tourist visits have shown a sharp upward trend. Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), there were 478,530 visits in 2022, rising to 997,938 visits (domestic and international) in 2023, and increasing further to 1,004,500 visits in 2024. This surge directly affects the need for adequate supporting facilities, particularly well-managed parking areas, to ensure visitor comfort and smooth tourism activities. The research methods include field observation, calculation of parking space requirements based on vehicle volume, and evaluation of existing facility availability. The analysis results show that parking needs during peak visits have not been optimally met. The main parking area next to the palace, with an area of approximately 3,000 m², accommodates around 150 four-wheeled vehicles, whereas the theoretical requirement reaches 400 vehicles. Motorcycle parking at Taman Sungai Jantan has a capacity of 150 units, while the actual demand based on parking space unit standards (SRP) exceeds 800 units. This mismatch has led to illegal parking on sidewalks, roadsides, and residential yards, causing congestion and reducing the quality of the tourism experience. This study recommends the development of new parking areas, the implementation of zone-based parking management, and the optimization of existing land use to support smooth tourism activities and enhance visitor comfort.
