Abstract

ater cooling system heat transfer in the water cooling system using a radiator, so that the engine can be used for a longer period of time is by maintaining the engine temperature at normal temperature. This study aims to determine the effect of the percentage of ethylene glycol type in the radiator coolant on the performance of gasoline engines, as well as to provide the effect of the optimal percentage of ethylene glycol. In this study, the water coolant used is a different type of water coolant brand with a rotation of 1500 rpm, 2000 rpm and 2300 rpm. The results of the radiator effectiveness value on type A coolant are higher than coolant B, due to the influence of the boiling point of the type of coolant used in the radiator coolant. The results of the higher radiator effectiveness value will affect fuel consumption, specific fuel consumption (Sfc) and thermal efficiency. because the more efficient fuel consumption due to the effectiveness of the radiator coolant A allows the engine temperature to be more stable so that combustion in the combustion chamber is more stable which results in the Thermal Efficiency value (ηth). If the engine uses coolant with a higher radiator effectiveness value, it will produce a higher Thermal Efficiency (ηth) value, while the type of coolant with a lower efficiency value tends to produce a lower Thermal Efficiency (ηth).
