Abstract

Design is a process to create a tool on a design. In this study, the design of the Planetary Ball - Vertical Mill machine was carried out to smooth granite sand. This tool was created to smooth granite sand which will later be useful for additional property industry and jewellery. The design process of this tool is carried out in several stages, namely design and explanation of functions, design of machine concepts (working drawings). Engineering analysis includes power and speed on the shaft. The driving force of this granite sand smoothing machine is a 1/2 HP electric motor with a rotation of 1420 Rpm. The results of the design of the granite sand smoothing machine using a smoothing capacity of 150 g on the bowl mill, and for the results the machine has a frame length of 50 cm x width 50 cm and a height of 100 cm, this machine frame uses 5 mm UNP type iron. Testing the machine to smooth granite sand is done by giving it a rotation of 300 rpm and different times. Where the results of smoothing granite sand with a mesh size of 100 with a weight of 150 g and can produce the expected smoothness, namely mesh 200. This shows that the tool made meets the desires.
