Abstract

Corrosion is one of the major issues in the oil and gas industry, particularly in flowline pipes that are vulnerable to damage due to chemical and electrochemical reactions. The use of inhibitors is one of the most effective and economical methods to reduce the corrosion rate. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of rice husk ash extract as an environmentally friendly inhibitor against the corrosion rate in oil well flowline pipes with pH variations (5, 6, and 7) and temperature variations (30°C, 50°C, and 60°C). The weight loss method was used, with a rice husk ash concentration of 1.5 g/L and an immersion period of 24 hours. The results show that rice husk ash effectively reduces the corrosion rate across all pH and temperature variations, with the highest inhibition efficiency of 68,27% observed at pH 7 and a temperature of 60°C, and the lowest corrosion rate recorded at 0.2331 mm/day. The effectiveness of the inhibitor increased under neutral pH and high temperature conditions, indicating that this combination provides the optimal condition for rice husk ash performance as a corrosion inhibitor. These findings highlight the potential of rice husk ash as an economical, safe, and environmentally friendly organic inhibitor alternative for use in the oil and gas industry.
