Abstract

Drilling mud is an important parameter in drilling operations and must be designed in accordance with well conditions and API standards so that the drilling process does not fail. Several additives such as activated carbon are added to drilling mud to overcome filtration loss because activated carbon has good control over filtration loss and drilling mud rheology. Salak skin waste can be used to make active carbon. Because it contains 26% cellulose, 33.9% hemicellulose and 17.4% lignin. The stages of making activated carbon from snake fruit skin include dehydration, carbonization and activation, the activation used is physical activation. Snake bark activated carbon was added to drilling mud with a composition of 2gr, 4gr, 6gr, 8gr, 10gr, 20gr, 30gr, 37gr to determine its effect on the filtration loss and rheology values of the drilling mud. Based on the tests that have been carried out, it is known that the addition of the active carbon additive from bark of snake fruit has an effect on the value of filtration loss and rheology of drilling mud. For filtration loss, the more additives are added, the less filtrate will be. Snake skin activated carbon 2g to 10g does not meet API standards
