Abstract

Drilling mud is one of the important parameters in the success of drilling operations. Therefore, the rheology and characteristics of the mud used must be in accordance with the formation conditions. Carboxymethyl Cellulose is one of the additives added to overcome filtration loss. This study analyzed the effect of corn starch-based CMC on Filtration Loss, Mud Cake, Viscosity and Density of drilling mud. Variations in the amount of corn starch composition added were 0.3 grams, 0.5 grams, 0.7 grams, 0.9 grams, and 1.2 grams. Based on the results of the study obtained that the more corn starch CMC added, the lower the Filtration Loss value, and there was an increase in the Mud Cake, Viscosity and Density values. For corn starch CMC, the lowest Filtration Loss value was 10 ml, Mud Cake 1.8, Viscosity 65.45 cp, and Density 8.7 g/cm³ with the addition of 1.2 grams. Filtration Loss and Mud Cake testing were conducted using a Low Pressure Low Temperature (LPLT) apparatus.
