Abstract

The "MS" field is located in the Central Sumatra Basin, a basin that has long been known for its abundant production of light and medium oil. With initial oil reserves (OOIP) of 13 MMSTB, the field's production has reached 1.09 MMSTB from 2011 to 2018 at a recovery factor (RF) of 8.38%. With indications that the layers in this field still have great oil potential for production, an effective method is needed to significantly increase oil recovery (RF). One method that can be used in the "MS" field is the addition of infill wells. In this case, there are two types of infill wells that can be considered, namely horizontal infill wells and vertical infill wells. Vertical wells have advantages in terms of simpler and lower-risk drilling techniques, horizontal wells have the advantage of maximizing contact with productive areas or layers in the reservoir. Therefore, in this study, a reservoir simulation will be carried out with a prediction of the development scenario production to compare the results of oil recovery (RF) from the addition of horizontal and vertical infill wells. From the research, it was found that the comparison of adding horizontal infill wells can produce 10.53% more oil RF than adding vertical infill wells with an RF value of 47.13% for horizontal infill wells and 36.60% for vertical infill wells.
