Abstract

Advancements in the construction sector have led to various innovations in concrete technology, one of which is Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC), capable of flowing and compacting under its own weight without external vibration. Although practical, SCC typically requires a high water content to achieve the desired flowability, which can negatively impact its compressive strength. This study aims to find a balance between workability and concrete strength by reducing water content and incorporating 1.5% Sika® ViscoCrete®-3115 N superplasticizer based on cement weight. The research applied three variations of water reduction: 0%, 15%, and 30%. Performance evaluation of the concrete mixes involved slump flow and compressive strength tests at 7 and 21 days of age, conducted at the Structure, Materials, and Computer Laboratory of Universitas Islam Riau. Results indicate that water reduction significantly affects both slump flow and compressive strength. Although reduced water content lowers the slump value, it remains within EFNARC standards, while optimum compressive strength is achieved at a 15% water reduction. Controlled water reduction combined with superplasticizer use can thus improve SCC quality and optimize material efficiency.
